Knies CHILDREN'S ZOO
Knies Children's Zoo has been a favourite meeting place since it was founded in 1962, a place where young and older guests alike can make friends with around 300 different types of animal. Asian elephants weighing several tons, inquisitive African pygmy goats, South American sea lions anxious to learn and flying parrots will all guarantee memorable experiences.
Riding on one of the well-behaved ponies or, if you are aiming higher, on a double-humped camel will ensure close contact with your particular favourite animal. If you're really brave then you can even clamber onto the back of an elephant.
Every day no matter what the weather you can enjoy attractive sea lion and parrot shows.
Apart from getting up close to your favourite animals you will experience many unforgettable moments thanks to the nostalgic Rössli tram journey, the climbable artificial whale, the pirate ship and the adventure playground measuring 1000 m2.
In the meantime you and your family can serve yourselves in the two reasonably priced self-service restaurants or take advantage of one of the picnic spots.
Today the Children's Zoo, which was founded 50 years ago by the brothers Fredy and Rolf Knie from the Swiss National Circus Knie, continues to be run as a purely private undertaking whose declared aim is to enable and encourage direct contact between human beings and animals.
